YouTube TV has announced another price increase for the basic subscription. An increase of 8 dollars (or 7.4 euros). The service therefore goes from 64.99 dollars (nearly 60.45 euros) per month to 72.99 dollars (nearly 68 dollars) per month, to the chagrin of its subscribers.
New subscriptions are immediately affected by this increase, while current subscribers will see the increase on their first monthly bill from April 18. This also applies to French users who watch YouTube TV in France using a VPN.
Rising content costs
YouTube TV is a live television streaming service. This justifies this increase by the increasing costs of content. In addition, the firm adds that it wants to invest more in the service in order to provide the best possible offer to its users. Its officials explain that: as content costs have increased and we continue to invest in our quality of service, we will adjust our monthly cost. »
At the same time, the 4K add-on saw a drop. It is now priced at 9.99 dollars (9.29 euros) per month, against 19.99 dollars (a little less than 19 euros), previously. The monthly bill for 4K subscribers therefore decreases by 2 dollars (i.e. 1.86 euros). This brings us back to the introductory price of this formula. This includes perks like downloads for offline viewing and unlimited simultaneous streams over Wi-Fi.
A non-binding offer
Customers who are currently receiving a reduced price for the basic subscription to YouTube TV as part of a promotional offer will not experience this increase until the end of their special offer. This increase does not necessarily mean access to new features. Indeed, it only offers HD service. However, its managers specify that users are free to terminate their contract at any time, as it is non-binding.
YouTube TV recently rolled out a new Multi-View feature. This allows users to watch up to four different streams at once. It also gives users access to NFL Sunday Ticket through a seven-year partnership. The latter will be available to all its subscribers in the United States as an add-on to YouTube TV, starting with the 2023 football season.
