Few people know it, but originally the Addams Family was a cartoon created by Charles Addams for the New Yorker. His illustrations later inspired the feature film released in 1991, soberly titled The Addams Family. Since then, many adaptations of the works of Charles Addams have emerged. And the Addams Family has become a big franchise.
Apart from the films, we have seen a few television adaptations. And today, the Addams family is about to make its big comeback on Netflix. This adaptation will take the form of a live-action series called Wednesday.
And as its name suggests, it will follow the adventures of little Wednesday Addams.
The new face of Wednesday
In the movies of the 90s, Wednesday Addams was played by Christina Ricci. And while the actress hasn’t appeared in any Addams Family projects since 1993, she’s remained the face of Wednesday.
However, that is about to change. Indeed, in Wednesday, Wednesday will now be embodied by Jenna Ortega. This rising actress could be seen in You, Jane the Virgin and Scream.
Christina Ricci will be there
Even if she will no longer play Wednesday, Christina Ricci will be part of the cast of Wednesday. For now, details of his role are being kept under wraps. However, it has been said that she will play a new character in the Addams Family universe.
In a recent interview with Collider, Christina Ricci opened up about the reasons for her return to the Addams family. It must be said that it has been almost 30 years since the actress has been linked to the franchise.
“It’s Tim Burton, I was honored that he asked me because you know, he’s a genius. And on top of that, it’s the fact that I’m being asked to take part in a new version of this thing that’s part of my identity and my life story. I mean, I know they did it out of the goodness of their hearts, but it really touched me, and I thought it was very sweet. It’s such a fun world, and my character is outrageous and fun, but also very different from anything I’ve done, and that was great.”
